The glass skin ritual
Ninety minutes of layered hydration and very gentle surface work, built the Korean way — thin fluids onto damp skin, repeated, with time to settle between them. The finish is even, smooth and light-reflecting, and it is honestly temporary.
- Layered, not stripped
- 90 minutes in the room
What is glass skin, actually?
It is a finish, not a skin type and not a state you arrive at permanently. When the surface is very smooth and the tone is even, light reflects off it in one direction instead of scattering — and that single-direction reflection is what reads to the eye as clarity. Nothing has been bleached, nothing has been removed in bulk; the surface has simply been made flat and full of water.
That is why it is built rather than applied, and why it is a ritual rather than a result. Skin loses water continuously, so the finish softens over the following week. Guests who keep it are the ones who keep the rhythm, not the ones who booked the longest single session.
NINETY MINUTES
How does the session run, step by step?
Five stages. Each one is named before it begins, and any of them can be paused.
- 01
Double cleanse and a warm compress
Oil-based first to dissolve make-up and sunscreen, then water-based to clean the skin itself. A warm compress softens the surface so the later layers are not fighting it.
- About 15 minutes
- Come with make-up on — it tells us more
- 02
Gentle surface refinement
Enzyme rather than acid in most cases. The goal is a flat surface, and flatness comes from removing very little evenly, not from removing a lot.
- About 15 minutes
- Skipped or softened for reactive skin
- 03
Layered hydration
The heart of the ritual. Thin essences pressed into skin that is still damp, three to five times, with settling time between each pass. This is the part that cannot be hurried and the part that does the work.
- About 30 minutes
- Palms, not fingertips — pressed, not rubbed
- 04
Massage along the drainage lines
Slow lymphatic work across the face, jaw and neck. It feels like almost nothing while it happens, and it is why the face often looks less puffy at the end.
- About 20 minutes
- Continues onto the neck and shoulders
- 05
Mask, seal and settle
A hydrating mask over the layers, then a light seal to slow the water leaving. You rest with it on rather than being moved along.
- About 10 minutes
- You leave with a written aftercare note

THE SHAPE OF THE SESSION
What happens at each stage, and how long does it take?
| Stage | Time | What it does | What you feel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double cleanse | 15 min | Clears make-up, sunscreen and the day | Warm, then cool |
| Surface refinement | 15 min | Evens the surface so light reflects in one direction | A light tingle, briefly |
| Layered hydration | 30 min | Carries water into the upper layers, pass by pass | Cool, damp, repetitive |
| Lymphatic massage | 20 min | Encourages fluid away from the face | Almost nothing — most guests sleep |
| Mask and seal | 10 min | Holds the water in as you settle | Heavy, in a comfortable way |

CHOOSING
Is this the right session for me, or is another one?
Three sessions people compare most often. Your therapist will move you between them on the day if the skin says so.

How long does the finish last, and how is it kept?
At its clearest for three to five days, and visibly softer after about a week. That is not a shortcoming of the session — it is what water does. Anyone promising a permanent version of this finish is describing something else.
Keeping it is unglamorous and effective: hydrate onto damp skin every evening, seal it with something light, wear sunscreen daily, and come back every three to four weeks. Guests who do that hold the finish most of the month. Guests who chase it with stronger products at home usually lose it faster.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Questions about the glass skin ritual
Filter by topic, or search for what you need.
Skin looks its best the following morning rather than the moment you stand up. Straight after a session it is warm, a little flushed and very damp — the even, light-reflecting finish arrives once that has settled overnight.
Clearest for three to five days, noticeably softer after a week. It is a finish built on water content, and skin loses water continuously — which is why the rhythm matters more than the length of any single session.
Often better than people expect. Oily skin is frequently short on water rather than heavy on oil, and layered hydration suits it well. Where there is active congestion, your therapist may suggest the deep cleanse protocol first and this ritual after.
Yes, with the surface refinement softened or dropped entirely. Say so when you book and a patch check on the jawline is done before anything is taken across the face. The hydration layers themselves are the gentlest part of the session.
Tell us when you book and the session is rebuilt around it — no strong acids, no heat-led steps, and a shorter, gentler shape. If you have any doubt at all, please check with your own doctor first.
Every three to four weeks holds the finish for most of the month. Coming more often does not compound it — skin needs the interval, and the money is better spent on keeping the evening routine simple and consistent.
Five to seven days before, and ideally once a month beforehand as well so the day itself is a repeat rather than a first attempt. If you can only come the day before, we will run a calming hydration session instead of this one.
Partly, and it is worth doing. Two or three passes of a thin essence onto still-damp skin, pressed with the palms, then something light over the top. What you cannot replicate at home is the surface work and the massage, which is most of the difference.
No heat, no make-up and nothing new on the night itself. Pause retinoids and strong acids for about three days, and wear sunscreen every morning for the following week. Your written note gives the exact days for the version you had.
No. Those are built around a device or around removing more of the surface. This ritual is built around layering and patience, with the least surface work we can get away with. It is a slower route to the same idea of evenness, and it suits reactive skin far better.
How this ritual is run
- Consultation before stage oneThe layers are chosen for the skin in front of us
- Enzyme before acidThe gentlest route to an even surface
- Patch check for reactive skinJawline first, never straight across the face
- An honest timeframeWe tell you the finish is temporary, because it is
PLACEHOLDER FOOTAGE
What layering actually looks like
Stage three is the whole ritual, and it is almost impossible to describe without looking dull on paper. This is placeholder footage while our own is filmed — but the repetition, the damp skin and the waiting between passes are exactly right.
Placeholder footage — not filmed at NOMAD.
Not sure this is the right session for your skin right now? Come for the consultation and let us look first — we move guests between protocols on the day more often than not.
